CANAL CLEANUP BY KAYAK
Saturday, October 24 - 13.00 & 14.00
Akenkaai/Quai des Péniches, 1000 Brussels, Belgium
Join the ACB for an afternoon of fishing plastic and trash out of the Brussels canal by kayak with Canal it Up. We'll run two cleanup shifts of two two-person kayaks (four people each shift) at 13h and 14h. Space is very limited. We will take registrations on a first-come-first-in basis, with a wait list. Please only register if you are sure that you can come. If you need to cancel, please let us know as far ahead in advance as possible so that we can give your spot to someone on the wait list.
Kayaks and life vests will be provided. Please dress comfortably in weather-appropriate clothes that can get a bit wet. There will be a secure place to store valuables & electronics, if desired, or dry bags to keep them with you. Come ready to roll up your sleeves for an active cleanup day on the water!
About Canal it Up: The waste problem in the canal isn’t known to all. And yet, if you walk by the canal in the city center, you can always see trash floating. Any time of the day, any day of the week. If it’s not fished out, it ends up in the Scheldt and further in the North Sea. Every year 8 million tons of plastic waste worldwide find their way into the oceans via rivers. This is a huge stream of waste, which is difficult to retrieve once it is in the ocean. To raise awareness about this, we go out once a week with our kayaks to fish for plastic taking a new person along every time to reach as many people as possible.
Time: Please register for 13h or 14h shift (~60 min each)
Location: Akenkaai/Quai des Péniches (specific location sent upon registration)
Price - 10 EUR per person - 100% of your registration fee will be donated to Canal it Up to support ongoing canal cleanup efforts. Payment in advance before 14th October.

Cancellations are possible until noon on 14 October. Participants cancelling after this time, as well as no-shows, are charged the full cost of the event.
