Guided Visit to
the Indios no Brasil Exhibition
Join the ACB on Saturday morning, February 4, for a guided visit in English to the exhibition Indians in Brazil at the Royal Museums of Art and History in Cinquantenaire Park. The multifaceted exhibition brings together archeological and contemporary artifacts from Brazil’s diverse indigenous cultures. Many of these works have never before been shown in Europe.
The 290 objects on display come from leading Brazilian anthropological museums, and were chosen to introduce the visitor to the fascinating tribes of Amazonian Indians – to learn how the different tribes live, what they eat, what they wear, and their relationships with the forest and the world of spirits.
Magnificent feather crowns, woven baskets, ceramic funeral urns, masks, toys, musical instruments, everyday tools and weapons, as well as beautifully crafted sacred and ritual objects reveal the rich variety of cultures and artistic traditions of Brazil’s native peoples. In addition, the exhibition presents contextual photographs and video clips made by both Indians and ethnographers of religious ceremonies, coming of age rituals, and burial rites.
