Guided Walk Deep into UNESCO Heritage Sonian Beech Forest
Saturday, November 21, 5.45 pm - 9.00 pm
Join us on an inspiring, professionally guided walk deep into the Sonian Forest at the edge of Brussels, where we will discover the marvelous beech and oak trees growing there for more than 250 years and now towering nearly 50 meters high.
While learning about the forest and its unique history and characteristics from our knowledgeable guide, we might found ourselves face-to-face with a deer, a fox, or some wild boars. As we continue our walk through sunset and into evening twilight, the forest falls still and mysterious, but remains very much alive. Our experienced guide will help us to navigate our way through the darkness and to discover the sounds of night owls.
Please be prepared to walk on an uneven dirt footpath for around 8.5km. Dress appropriately for the weather, including comfortable walking/hiking shoes and clothes/jackets/gloves suitable for post-sundown temperatures. Bring a backpack with your own drinking water and any energy-boosting snacks you might want. Headlamps are optional. If you have one or more headlamps, please bring for your own use and to share.
Our guide is a passionate and experienced hiker, an arborist, tree surgeon, and arboriculturist, a professional in the cultivation and study of trees. He is happy to share with the ACB his knowledge about flora and fauna from Belgian’s most beautiful nature reserves.
Coordinates of our meeting point in Groenendael will be shared upon
registration. Please arrive by 17h45 so that we can gather and depart for the walk together at 18h. We will unfortunately not be able to wait for late arrivals. Our walk will end at approximately 9:00pm back at our original meeting point.

Reservations and cancellations are possible until November 11. Participants canceling after this time, as well as no-shows, are charged the full cost of the event.
