The American & Canadian Reading Group

On the second Wednesday of the month, from 19:00  to 21:00 you are invited to join our Reading Group to discuss the book-of-the-month, written by an American or Canadian author. We meet once a month, our evening get-together is in the Brussels area.

    Reading Group guidelines/criteria:

We look for great authors who write in English, available for purchase in shops or online, not more than 300-400 pages, and prefer those that have a score of at least 4/5 on Goodreads.  The books do not have to be recent; they can also be ones you loved, and we might have missed.

Interested in joining the Reading Group?

The Reading Group meets in member's homes in Brussels and the surrounding area.  As such, it is restricted to members of the AWCB and ACB.  Current members of the AWCB and ACB are encouraged to reach out bookclub@awcb.org with any questions.

Non members can find the conditions to join either club on their respective websites

     santorini wine tasting

    18 September 2025 - 19:30-22:30

    TapaSoif

Rue De Witte De Haelen 24, 1000 Brussels

A discovery tour of Assyrtiko and other great wines from Santorini

Join our partner Terre Mieli Cieli for a discovery tour of Assyrtiko and other great wines from Santorini. If there is one grape variety from Greece that people outside of the country have usually heard of, it's Assyrtiko. This tasting will put the spotlight on Assyrtikos and other unique grapes and wines from Santorini and show you why everyone is talking about them.

We will taste at least eight wines, mostly white wines--white grapes account for about 95% of the wine production on the island, and 75% of the plantings are Assyrtiko--but also at least one excellent red. We'll also taste an iconic dessert wine, Vinsanto--not to be confused with the Italian wine of the same name. We'll sample world-class wines from several producers including Argyros Estate, Volcanic Slopes Vineyards and Mikra Thira, a small winery on the "other" Santorini -- the island of Thirassia across the caldera from the main island.

As usual, all the wines will be paired with plenty of good Greek food. The wines will be presented by Petros Fotopoulos, the agronomist and oenologist who has animated attendees at my previous Greek wine tastings at TapaSoif with both his passion and his depth of knowledge.

Book early to reserve your spot! Participation is limited to the first 30 people who sign up.

Cancellations are possible until noon on 15 September, 2025. Participants cancelling after this time, as well as no-shows, are charged the full cost of the event.

ZERO WASTE ART | Exploring Circular Economy in the Art World

The event will begin with an interactive introduction by Dr. Audrey-Flore Ngomsik, CEO of Trianon Scientific Communication, designed to introduce participants to the concept of circular economy in art, making this complex topic accessible and engaging for everyone.

Our panel discussion will delve into the practical realities of creating art within circular economy principles, examining how sustainable practices manifest differently across various artistic contexts and cultural backgrounds. We'll explore how for some artists, sustainability represents a conscious environmental choice, while for others, these practices are culturally ingrained or natural ways of living.

    Panel Focus Areas

    • Defining Circular Economy in Art: Understanding what sustainable art practices mean in today's context

    • Cultural Perspectives: Exploring how different cultural backgrounds influence approaches to sustainable art

    • Practical Challenges: Discussing the real-world obstacles artists face when adopting zero waste practices

    • Consumer Impact: Examining how art buyers can drive industry-wide environmental consciousness

Showcase of Sustainable Artworks: Featuring actual examples of zero waste art practices

    Featured Panellists

    • Ann-Christine Racette - Artist and Founder of Sapientera, bringing invaluable expertise in sustainable art practices.

    • Sandra Agbessi - Co-founder and Artistic Director of the Brussels Africa Center, offering unique cultural perspectives on sustainability in art.

Both panellists will share insights about their respective approaches to sustainable practices and present examples of their work, creating a rich dialogue about the future of environmentally conscious art.

    Why Attend?

This event offers a unique opportunity to:

    • Learn about circular economy principles in an artistic context

    • Discover how your art purchasing decisions can create positive environmental impact

    • Explore diverse cultural approaches to sustainable art practices

    • Connect with like-minded individuals committed to sustainable living

    • Support artists who prioritize environmental responsibility

ZERO WASTE ART continues our mission to transform how we think about consumption and sustainability, demonstrating that choosing sustainable art can drive the entire industry toward more environmentally conscious practices.

This event is part of an ongoing series exploring sustainable living practices for the general public. It is organized by Trianon Scientific Communication and hosted by The Nine and is open to the public.
