May 10th - Open Door Day for EU Institutions!

On this day 75 years ago, then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman delivered a historic speech that led to the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community so countries could share coal and steel production and make war ‘not merely unthinkable, but materially impossible’.

Promoting cooperation between nations and facilitating the post-war reconstruction of Europe, this milestone led the way to an economic community that would gradually become a political union.

Here are the links to each of the institution’s programmes for Open Door Day for EU institutions.

The American & Canadian Reading Group

Please join the American & Canadian Reading Group for the annual meet and greet session.

Bring two book recommendations and be ready to volunteer to host a group meeting.  We will also provide a list of past books the group has read, for your reference and reading pleasure.

Potential new members are welcome to join.  Each person will be responsible for their own costs, so please plan accordingly.  Hope to see you there!

Current book club guidelines/criteria : This book club is comprised of members of the American Women’s Club of Brussels and the American Club of Brussels. We look for great authors who write in English, available for purchase in shops or online, not more than 300-400 pages, and have a preference for those that have a score of at least 4/5 on Goodreads.  The books do not have to be recent, they can also be ones you loved that we might have missed.  We meet in the second week of the month, on Wednesdays at 7pm, at a host’s home or a cafe/restaurant, in the greater Brussels area.
