The American & Canadian Reading Group

On the second Wednesday of the month, from 19:00  to 21:00 you are invited to join our Reading Group to discuss the book-of-the-month, written by an American or Canadian author. We meet once a month, our evening get-together is in the Brussels area.

    Reading Group guidelines/criteria:

We look for great authors who write in English, available for purchase in shops or online, not more than 300-400 pages, and prefer those that have a score of at least 4/5 on Goodreads.  The books do not have to be recent; they can also be ones you loved, and we might have missed.

Interested in joining the Reading Group?

The Reading Group meets in member's homes in Brussels and the surrounding area.  As such, it is restricted to members of the AWCB and ACB.  Current members of the AWCB and ACB are encouraged to reach out bookclub@awcb.org with any questions.

Non members can find the conditions to join either club on their respective websites

Private Guided Tours and Beer Tasting:

the historical Tour & Taxis building and the Brasserie de la Senne Brewery

    March 7th 2026, 15:00 - 17:45

Every Brussels local knows the name Tour & Taxis, but how many truly know the full story behind this building - one of the most breathtaking monuments to Brussels' industrial golden age?

Its history begins in the 16th century, when the aristocratic Thurn und Taxis family — appointed postmasters by the Duke of Burgundy — built Europe's very first international postal network from this very ground, their horse relay routes stitching the courts of Europe together. By the industrial era, the site had transformed into a monumental freight and customs hub, its soaring halls of brick, glass and wrought iron employing thousands at its peak. Then, in 1968, the European Customs Union rendered it obsolete almost overnight — and the great halls fell silent.

But the giant has woken. After a painstaking award-winning restoration, Tour & Taxis has been reborn as one of Brussels' most vibrant urban districts, its historic bones lovingly preserved and its spirit renewed.  Join us for this fascinating tour to uncover the remarkable history, hidden architecture, and fascinating stories woven into every corner of this extraordinary site.

The next part of our private tour is to discover one of Brussels' most beloved craft breweries, Brasserie de la Senne, which is hidden within the historic walls of Tour & Taxis and occupies a 4,500 m² facility.

Named after the river that once ran through the heart of the city, this proudly independent brewery has been crafting bold, characterful beers with a distinctly Brussels soul since 2002. On our guided tour, you'll get a rare behind-the-scenes look at how their celebrated brews are made, from grain to glass — while learning about the deep and fascinating connection between Brussels' brewing traditions and the city's rich cultural identity.

And of course no visit would be complete without tasting the results for yourself. Whether you're a seasoned beer lover of simply curious to discover one of Brussel's hidden gems, join us for this special tour which will finish with a tasting of 4 of their flagship beers!

JOIN US FOR THIS AFTERNOON FULL OF FUN AND DISCOVERY IN BRUSSELS:   REGISTER HERE

Price for both private guided tours and the beer tasting:

    Members 55€

    Non-members 65€

    Partner club members 60€

    Logistics and Meeting Point:

We will start with a guided tour of Tours & Taxis site at 3pm sharp, followed directly by the tour of the Brasserie de la Senne; the visits are expected to finish at 17:45.  The meeting point is at the info kiosk in the Royal Depot (picture below).  Public transport and on-site public parking are available. Here is a map of the site that you can also access HERE

Cancellations:  not allowed past February 26.

    Optional Dinner (at own cost):

For those who wish to continue to dinner, there are plenty of options at Tours & taxis (www.tours-taxis.com) and here are a few suggestions:

The workshop is on April 16th (not 15th as initially advertised)

Join us at the historic Prince Albert Club for a fun, practical and highly interactive workshop with Brussels-based Business Communication Coach Melanie Hussell, who will show you how to Find Your Voice - and Make it Unforgettable!

Back by popular demand and building on the first session with ACB last October, this second workshop explores three new powerful vocal foundations:

    Visit to La Rivelaine

    Art, Nature & Scent

    Saturday, April 18 from 15:00 - 17:30

Step into a different kind of spring day just outside Brussels.

The American Club of Brussels is invited to La Rivelaine in Lillois, a tranquil estate where art, nature and scent come together in an immersive experience created in partnership with the Fleur Rossdale Foundation. Set in peaceful gardens and a historic barn, La Rivelaine has long been a meeting place for dialogue, reflection, and our connection with the natural world.

During our private group visit, we will:

    • Explore the gardens and perfumery of La Rivelaine with Cyrille Lucas Vael, discovering how botanical cultivation and scent creation support and protect natural ecosystems.

    • Visit the Insensum atelier and be introduced to the craft of incense-making – where centuries-old knowledge meets contemporary science and the language of scent.

    • Enjoy a private viewing of the “Nature in Art” exhibition, curated by Aglaia Ponomareva, featuring works by established artists alongside pieces by students from EEBA and ISB, entered for the DCCI School Awards.

    • Be welcomed in the barn by Fleur Rossdale, founder of the Direct Climate Cooling Initiative, who uses storytelling to bring climate realities to life for younger generations.
    • Enjoy tea and cakes at the end of the visit

It promises to be a serene, thought‑provoking outing—a chance to slow down, reawaken the senses, and experience how creativity and ecology can inspire a more hopeful future.

    When Greece meets France:

A wine tasting featuring inspired Greco-French blends

Fifty years after the legendary Judgment of Paris, the world of wine has changed — and France no longer holds all the cards. Today, world-class wines come from every corner of the globe, including the sun-drenched hills of Greece.

Join us for a special tasting in partnership with Greek winemaker and importer Petros Fotopoulos of Tapa Soif Brussels. We’ll explore Greek wines made from inspired blends marrying French and native Greek varieties such as Grenache and Agiorgitiko, Chardonnay and Moschofilero, Merlot and Mouhtaro. Together, we’ll uncover how Greek terroir transforms French grapes and how daring winemakers are crafting truly “Hellenicaux” wines — with a Mediterranean flair all their own.
We’ll sample at least eight wines — four whites and four reds — expertly paired with generous plates of food (vegetarian options available).

An Evening of Jazz, Diplomacy & Purpose – Featuring the NATO Jazz Orchestra

The ACB community is warmly invited to a truly special musical evening on Saturday, 25 April 2026 at 20:00, at the Salle des Fêtes of Collège Saint-Augustin in Enghien.

Expect a vibrant and colourful jazz performance in a setting that brings together the international and diplomatic community for a shared cause.

    SOLVAY HOTEL TOUR

The American Club of Brussels invites you for an exceptional tour of this uniquely beautiful landmark of Art Nouveau in Brussels.

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Monument, the Solvay House is a part of the major Town Houses of the Architect Victor Horta.

In 1894, Armand Solvay, the chemistry magnate, son of the chemist, industrialist and philanthropist Ernest Solvay engaged Horta's services, granting him unlimited freedom of creation and unrestricted funding to bring to fruition the project of a home for his bride in Art Nouveau style. It is located on 224 Avenue Louise.

It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2000 as the core of urban residences that Horta designed before 1900.

For this wealthy patron, Horta could spend a fortune on precious materials and expensive details. He designed every single detail: furniture, carpets, light fixtures, tableware and even the doorbell. He used expensive materials such as marble, onyx, bronze, tropical woods, and more.

    The construction lasted 5 years.

Join us on a guided visit of this major realization of Victor Horta in Brussels. Don't miss it!
