NUTS weekend in Bastogne!

Join us for a full day of WWII history in Bastogne visiting 3 key historical places:  The Bastogne War Museum and Mardasson Monument, War Rooms and Bois Jacques Battlefield.

Our day will start at the spectacular Bastogne War Museum at 10:00 which takes about 2 hours. There is a cafeteria onsite where we can have a simple lunch (each person pays their own lunch).  After lunch we will view the Mardasson Monument.

Next we will go on to the Bois Jacques Battlefield, the scene of terrible fighting between the American and German armies, where you can still see the famous "foxholes" that soldiers dug to protect themselves.  Through an augmented reality mobile application, visitors can immerse themselves in the lives of American soldiers on this battlefield.

Last but not least we will visit the Bastogne War Rooms. This is an iconic location, Brigadier General McAuliffe’s historical cellar where on December 22, 1944, uttered his famous "NUTS" response to the surrender request from German forces besieging the town of Bastogne.

In addition, the following activities will be taking place throughout the day:

  • Meet & Greet with World War Two veterans

  • Reenactment camp (with reenactors, tents, dioramas and WW2 military vehicles)

  • Workshops on the civilian life

  • Demonstration of the Enigma decryption machine

  • Screening of documentaries (with participation from directors and civilian witnesses)

  • Book signing session with authors on the Battle of the Bulge

  • History book and document exchange

  • Guided tour of the Bois Jacques battlefield by the non-profit organisation ‘Bastogne Memorial’

  • Musical entertainment
