Private Guided Tour of the
Hôtel Max Hallet
Join the American Club of Brussels for a private, guided tour in English of the famous Hôtel Max Hallet on Saturday, October 22 at 1:45 p.m.
Victor Horta is the father of Art Nouveau architecture in Belgium. Art Nouveau is famous for its use of natural light, gorgeous cabinetry, organic design and fabulous stairwells. Brussels today still has more than 500 Art Nouveau buildings. The majority of these buildings are in districts that were newly opened at the turn of the century for residential development in areas such as Schaerbeek, St. Gilles, Ixelles, and Uccle. These homes were built by wealthy industrialists and entrepreneurs who became newly rich during Belgium's commercial heyday at the turn of the last century.
The lawyer Max Hallet had this house built in 1904, according to the plans of Horta, to accommodate his clients and friends in a luxurious setting. Victor Horta decorated the living and reception areas according to Hallet's wishes. A subtle wonder of simplicity... the quintessence of this talent!
